The DSF is born from a deep understanding of the synergistic bond between the expansion of scientific knowledge and the advancement of society through exponential technologies like DLT. The foundation recognises evident challenges that are expected along with the adoption of new scientific paradigms, and addresses them by building an end-to-end flow of knowledge from education and research to innovation.

Since its official launch at Paris Blockchain Week, the DSF has made important steps by creating a solid network of brilliant minds and actors in the industry around the world, pooling resources to build trust by establishing standards based on science and truth.

Diverse projects make the DSF’s commitment tangible. The foundation promotes highly specialised education based on real industry needs and use-cases, and works with partners on knowledge standardisation. It actively supports and advances cutting-edge research and publications through grants and in-house efforts, and by fostering collaboration among DSF Science Fellows.

The DSF also acts as a pioneer for innovations, distinguishing itself by building an in-house portfolio of information pollution, ESG tracking tools and proprietary indices that can ensure information trust and accuracy, and facilitate informed decisions aligned with sustainability.

The nonprofit announced its first call for up to $5-million grant proposals earlier in March. Its first grant recipients include pioneers like Academy Award Winner Michael Donovan with Mint Road, the world’s first entertainment creation engine driven by a community DAO dedicated to creating new content and experiences; and Alastair Moore with SongBits, a practical application of legally trading music royalties using tokens that represent song copyrights and royalties, already working with notable artists like Dave Stewart from Eurythmics, the British duo inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

On June 29, 2023, the DSF will host its launch event at the Prince Philip House. Guests will be welcomed by distinguished speakers Paolo Tasca and Nikhil Vadgama. Tasca, an experienced leader in the Web3 domain, is not only a co-founder of DSF but also the founder and executive director of UCL’s Center for Blockchain Technologies. Vadgama, his DSF co-founder, serves as deputy director at the same center.

"We are thrilled to celebrate the launch of the DLT Science Foundation and invite blockchain leaders and enthusiasts to join us in this inspirational event. Through our collaboration, we can advance understanding and trust of blockchain and crypto, shaping a future where this technology drives positive changes."

Pradeep Iyer, member of the board of directors of the Hedera Governing Council, representing Avery Dennison, said:

"Hedera is proud to support the DSF in our shared mission to create a future where knowledge and value flow efficiently and equitably in a decentralised networks trust-powered by DLT. We look forward to DSF bringing long-overdue attention from the academic and research communities worldwide to the hashgraph technology."

Mance Harmon, Hedera’s co-founder, will speak about Hedera’s latest initiatives to strengthen the crypto ecosystem. The DSF will have its first grantees showcase their progress. The event will feature prominent speakers like Timothy Lane, former deputy governor of the Bank of Canada, who will provide remarks on how to rethink new institutions for a digital financial future; and Kristina Lucrezia Cornèr, global editor-in-chief and head of features at Cointelegraph, who will lead a discussion on how academic institutions can build trust within Web3. She will be joined by Teana Baker-Taylor, vice president of policy and regulatory strategy at Circle; Fariel Salahuddin, founder of UpTrade, a platform that enables rural communities to meet their needs using livestock as currency; and Auronda Scalera, curator for Art Dubai and director of the Infinity Art Museum.

Nikhil Vadgama, DSF’s co-founder, added:

"The DSF launch event is an unparalleled platform for visionaries and experts to come together, exchange ideas and explore avenues for collaboration. We look forward to welcoming industry leaders who share our passion for advancing blockchain technology."
